Electrician in Central Coast, NSW

Where we work across the Central Coast

The Central Coast is a region of coast, lakes and hinterland just north of Sydney, generally bounded by the Hawkesbury River to the south and Lake Macquarie to the north. Its waterways include Brisbane Water and the Tuggerah Lakes, and behind the coast the hinterland has fertile valleys, rural farmland and wineries. Our base is in Kanwal, inside the Central Coast Council area, and we serve the Central Coast and Newcastle from there.

Access across the region depends on the place. In a standalone house in a town, the owner or tenant usually lets us in, while a unit block with a gate or a shared meter room needs the strata manager, the agent or the owner to arrange access and hold the key or code. Rural land in the hinterland can mean a long driveway, with a shed or pump some distance from the house and sometimes a switchboard out in the shed. Tell us where the switchboard is and whether the property is on rural land, because a distant shed or pump adds time to the visit.

Most homes in the region are separate houses, with medium-density homes and flats in the towns. Coastal towns also have holiday parks and resorts, where each cabin or unit needs its own checks. The stock can differ from one town to the next, so the age of the switchboard and the wiring is something we check on site rather than assume.

What we do here most

Four kinds of job across the region

These four jobs show the range of work across the region, from standalone houses to holiday parks and rural properties in the hinterland. Each one starts with knowing what is on the switchboard or in the list of appliances, so we ask for that before the visit.

24/7 emergency electrical

Rural hinterland house and shed lose power overnight

A property on rural land can have a house, a shed and a pump on separate circuits, so a fault can cut the power to one part and leave the rest working. We ask the owner to check which parts are off and whether a safety switch (RCD) has tripped, then trace the fault from the switchboard outwards. A long cable run to a shed or pump is one of the first things we test.

test and tagging

Holiday park cabins tested room by room

Holiday parks and resorts in the region's coastal towns hold many portable appliances, from kettles and heaters to fridges, spread across their cabins. Test and tagging means each appliance is checked for electrical safety and labelled with the result and the date, and each cabin's power points and safety switch are checked as well. We record the results cabin by cabin, so the park can see what was tested, what failed and what was replaced.

residential electrical

A new air conditioner on a full switchboard

A switchboard with no spare way cannot take a new air conditioner until the board is upgraded or the circuits are rearranged. Boards that have been added to over the years may be full, so we open the board, count the ways and check the earthing before choosing a route. The new circuit runs from the board to the indoor and outdoor units, with a safety switch protecting it, and each connection is tested before we leave.

smoke detector testing and replacement

Smoke alarms checked in a family home

A family home in the region can have smoke alarms of different ages, some on a battery and some wired into the house power. We test each alarm, replace any that fail, and check whether each one is wired or battery-only. We leave a short list of what was tested, what was replaced and when each one should be checked again.

If it is urgent

If the power drops at a rural property after hours

  1. 1Check which parts of the property have power: the house lights, the shed light and any pump. If only one part is off, look at the safety switches (RCDs) on the switchboard from outside any panel, and switch a tripped one back on once. If it trips straight away again, leave it off.
  2. 2Do not touch a cable lying on the ground, do not go into a shed or pump house with water on the floor, and do not open the switchboard panel. If a power line is down near the property, stay well clear and call the network company before anyone goes near it.
  3. 3Tell us whether the property is on rural land, which parts have no power (the house, the shed, the pump), whether the switchboard is in the house or in the shed, and the road name and property number, so we can plan the trip.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work out of hours?

Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, every day, and we answer the phone at any hour. Urgent problems such as sparking outlets, burning smells and tripped circuits are part of our emergency electrical work.

Do you come to my home or business?

Yes. We travel to our customers, so we work at your home or business. This site does not list a street address.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover the Central Coast and Newcastle, NSW, and we are based in Kanwal. The list of suburbs on this site shows the places we work in.

What should I do before you arrive if the power is off?

First, check whether the power is off across the street or only at your place. Do not open the switchboard, and do not touch any wiring that is sparking, hot or wet. If you smell burning or see smoke, get everyone out and call emergency services first. When you call us, tell us what you have checked.

Do you give quotes?

Yes. Our process includes a quote. The steps run in this order: a first phone call, the quote, then the day of work and handover.

How much does the work cost?

The cost depends on the job, so this site does not publish figures. To get one, start with a first phone call, which leads to a quote.

How quickly can you get to me?

We do not promise a response time on this site, because it depends on the job and on where you are. We answer the phone at any hour, every day, so call us and describe the problem.

Do you work on rental properties?

Yes. Our test and tagging service covers rental properties. Our strata and real estate electrical maintenance is tailored for property managers, with routine inspections, emergency repairs and compliance checks.

Do you install battery storage?

Yes. Installing battery storage systems is part of our residential electrical work, alongside EV charging stations.

Do you work on older homes and old wiring?

Yes. We remove and replace old or unsafe wiring, including cloth or aluminium wiring. Our full property assessments look for risks, outdated wiring and safety concerns.

Do you work for businesses?

Yes. Our commercial electrical work includes wiring and rewiring for offices, shops, warehouses and communal buildings, along with switchboard upgrades and routine maintenance. We also test and tag plug-in appliances at workplaces.

Do you install EV chargers?

Yes. We install EV chargers for homes and businesses. We assess your property to work out where the charger should go, and the work can include load balancing, surge protection and switchboard upgrades where needed.

What services do you offer?

We do residential and commercial electrical work across the Central Coast and Newcastle. Our service pages list each type of work, including home rewiring, lighting, switchboard upgrades, smoke alarm testing, EV chargers, data cabling, test and tagging, and emergency repairs.

Do you test smoke alarms?

Yes. We test every smoke detector to check that it works and to check its battery life. We also install and replace smoke alarms, including interconnected ones.
